Rover Okay. So this is my first post here so here we go
So. About today I was putting in so custom voices on Mario Peach and Wario.
For some reason. When Mario appears in the race. Peach's and Wario's voice doesn't work.
I followed the instructions how to make a custom voice in the thread in the forum.
So. Yeah...By the way. Sorry if this isn't descriptive. Just new here.

Rover Alright so this is my second tutorial so I hope you'll understand my problem. So... A few days ago, I was trying to loop a midi in anvil using the markers you use in anvil and then I used Midi2sseq on bash and did the converting and that. After that when it was done converting. I noticed the midi isn't looping but only playing once. So I go back to anvil to use a different marker and after that. I used Midi2sseq to convert. When it was done...I replaced the old midi but again wasn't looping...I tried everything. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Here's what I have done:

Used markers in anvil
Used the cue in anvil
Used different songs
Used the markers in cakewalk



So I hope this is understandable. (Also sorry about this post using enters and no punctuation earlier)

Rover Alrighty. So this is my first tutorial and I'm glad to help the DShack community! But I wanna note something. This tutorial is pretty similar to Yawshi's how to make custom sounds in MKDS. Anyway.
Here's what you need.
A Mario Kart DS ROM (duh~)
MKDS Course Modifier
NDS Editor (AKA kiwi.ds)
Audacity
wav2swav
Swav2Swar
(Links will be provided later)

So heres the first step.
Go to MKDS Course Modifier. Click open file 1. Click your MKDS ROM and open it. Now. Click data. Sound. And export the sound_data.sdat to whatever you like to export. But don't close MKDSCM yet. We aren't done with that program yet.

Step 2.
Now open kiwi.ds. Click on file. Open. And then. Open the newly created sound_data.sdat. Then. Double click the sound_data.sdat. And this will open a new window. Now. Click on the small box beside the little disc with the music note. Now click on the paper that has lines on it. This will make the sound_data.sdat into a folder containing all the sounds. And now you should get an error (Don't worry it's not an error) that should say. "286 files extracted" Again. Don't close kiwi.ds yet. We are not done with that program yet.

Step 3.
Now. Go back to MKDSCM and click on "open file 1" and select the newly created sound data folder. And you have 4 folders that should say "Bank" "Sequence" "Sequence Archive" and lastly "Wave Archive" Select Wave Archive. And select any WAVE.swar that has music instruments in it you would like to use. In this tutorial. I'll use Luigi's Mansion soundfont. Now. You want to extract all SWAVs but using the black floppy disk. And now they should be SWAV #.wav now. You can extract them anyway you'd like.

Step 4.
So this is my favorite part. Anyway. Open up audacity. Drag the newly made SWAV # in audacity. And you should see the sound wave. Now you can either make some noise by using your microphone on your computer like I did. Or use anyway sound you like. But it has to be .wav. Drag the newly made .wav you made in audacity. Now here comes the part where some people will forget. Close the original music instrument by pushing the "X" and click on SWAV # (The button that has a black arrow on the right) And click on Mono. And now it's in mono. Click on file. Export Audio and replace it with the old SWAV # one. Repeat the process with the other SWAV # you have. Also you can now close audacity.

Step 5.
Now if you followed step 5 correctly. This one should work fine. Now drag all the SWAV # files to wav2swav. Then it should make "SWAV #.swav" If not. Simply open back audacity. Drag the non-working file to audacity. And click on the SWAV # (Again the button with the black arrow) and click on Mono. Now it should work. Anyway. Now open Swav2Swar. Click on add. Now drag all the SWAV #.swar and open them. Then. Click on Create SWAR. And replace the old .swar. And presto! Now you have a new music instrument to listen to!

Step 6.
Go back to kiwi.ds. Click on tools and click "Make sdat file" On "Source Files Folder" Click on the "..." Button. And select the sound_data.sdat folder. Don't worry about the other folders except the Output folder. Just click any location you'd like to put the newborn sdat.VERY IMPORTANT!! Make sure you uncheck Include SYMB block. It's very important to do that or else the sdat will go crazy. We don't want that.

Step 7.
We're almost done! Yay! Go to MKDSCM and open the MKDS ROM and go to data and then sound and you should see the sound_data.sdat. And right click sound_data.sdat. and press replace. Open the newly made sound_data.sdat and replace it. Boom you are done!

It took me like 2 hours to make this tutorial. But. Please mods. If you find any mistakes. Just PM me. Anyway. I hope this tutorial isn't too similar to Yawshi's tutorial. But anyway. Peace~ (Tutorial will be updated when I know how to loop an instrument.)

Rover Alrighty. So I decided to make a little rom hack of MKDS. Which that isn't really important. But anyway...So I'm trying to change the names of the characters in the character select screen and the names of the characters in race. So I open mkdscm and clicked on the list of the character names and etc. Anyway. I change the names (which I'm not gotta tell because I wanna keep it a secret) and export the name list. Then. I got to EFE and replaced original list name with the new one. I saved it all and booted up the game only to see it crashes on the character selection screen...So. Any ideas how to fix this?

Rover Soo. I'm guessing only some people here only know how to do this. By the way. I know how to make the custom kart, UV map the model, and etc. Right. So. Here's the problem. What I'm try to do is make the character fit in the custom kart. Which is a modified streamliner. I am going to replace the B Dasher with the modified streamliner. But. It doesn't change the character when he or she sits. Like. You know the b Dasher is slightly lower than the streamliner right? Well. If you do happen to replace the b dasher with the streamliner. The character sits in the same spot. Soo. Yeah. I just need to how to fix that.

Rover Soo. Me and SGC where making a test model for his rom hack. He makes the karts and I export them to MKDS. Anyways. I'm using TooLazyToKeepDoingItByHand. (Yes that's the program name) And when I change the wheel size. It only changes the front wheels. Not the back wheels. Am I doing something wrong? SGC told me there's only 1 version of the program.

Rover Alrighty. So I was exporting someone's custom kart by using g3dcvtr gui in MKDSCM. But lemme say this first. I did had to reset my laptop (I mean reinstall Windows if you were wondering). I think that could be a problem. But probably not. Anyway. The first error message I get is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." This happens which I first click on G3.
Then, when I choose my imd file. And I click on emdl or etex. It says "Cannot start process because a file name has not been provided." I'm not really sure what that means to be honest but maybe a hint could help.

Rover I've noticed on my morning beach track I've made. There's one CPU that doesn't ever slow down. However...The rest of the cpus go slow and never attempt to speed up. I honestly have no idea how to fix this. I've seen some cts that CPUs actually try (Yawshi circuit for example) but I honestly don't know how to fix this ;w;

Rover Heya! Sooo...I'm currently making a Mario Kart DS Rom Hack called Revolution Kart DS. It's a hack that plans to replace at like 99% of everything in MKDS. Anyways. I'm basically the one who makes everything. I had some help last year with some stuff but now. I do everything. What do I even do you ask? Well....I make Custom Tracks, Custom Characters, Custom Music, Custom Karts, Custom Instruments (Based off of the SNES soundfont) and basically everything else you could imagine. Except ASM hacks. Heh.
Oh you wanna know the characters? Sure here they are in Mario to Bowser order.

Rayman. Yeah remember him? Well he's the main character of this game. This guy is good for the newbies who are new to playing this hack.

Crash Bandicoot. In celebration of Crash Bandicoot N Sane trilogy. He's appearing in this hack. Crash is great for snaking. Mostly because his drift stats are low. And have good mini turbo boosts as well.

Blaze The Cat. A Sonic character? You gotta be kidding me...Well at least it's not Shadow or whatever...But hey. She's a cool character. Well there's nothing too good to say about this purple cat. Shes great for anyone who wants a challenge for snaking.

Braixen. What the? A Pokemon? Yep! That's right it's a Pokemon driving a friggin go kart. She's actually talented in go karting. High handling and high acceleration and high mini turbo. This makes this fire fox a speeding thriller for anyone!

Rover (From animal crossing) Yeah. Looks like he finally got out of the train from all these years. Whole Rover isn't as good of a snaker as Crash and Braixen. He's a good choice for a new player.

Honey Queen. Oh man. Remember her from Mario Kart 7? Well looks like she's moved on from mario Kart 7 and signed up for the world of Revo Kart. Honey Queen is the lightest heavy weight. But that doesn't mean you should underestimate her when she's going full speed ahead towards you.

King Dedede. That's right. Right back ya. It's the King. The King Dedede. He's here for extreme racing competition and will try to get in first place at all costs...if he actually wants to try.
Finally here's the last character.

Gruntila. Despite her terrible handling and bad acceleration. Her weight is excellent for knocking other racers for fun.

Rover Also SGC. I believe I found a solution to fix the one CPU going top speed and the other CPUs go slow. All you gotta do is take an official nkm. And do not I repeat. Do not Delete all of the EPOIs. As long you keep some EPOIS. The CPUs will actually try now. :)

Rover Hiya. So people were asking me to make a tutorial about making a custom characters in MKDS. So here ya go.

INTRODUCTION: In order to make a custom character in MKDS (That actually has animations) you can not use MKDSCM (If you have G3DCVTR Gui then you can) if you have to make a custom character that have animations because you can not export .nsbca from MKDSCM (Again if you have G3DCVTR Gui then you can) . Anyway...here are the following tools/programs you will need:
Blender (or at least a program that supports bones and 3D modeling) (Also I will be using Blender in this tutorial) (Download link:https://www.blender.org/download/ )
G3DCVTR Gui (You will need this add-on for MKDSCM in order to export your model and animations) (Link: https://projectpokemon.org/home/files/file/2102-g3dcvtr/ ) (Credits to Aerodo for sending me a link)
2011 Maya (Dont worry. You dont need to look for it. Here is the link: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-maya-2011-service-pack-1.html ) (Credits for Aerodo for giving me the link from the MKDS modding discord server)
2011 Nitro Plugins for Maya. (Link: https://www.dshack.org/assets/store/322/TwlSDK-5_5-20100715a.zip)
EFE (AKA everyfileexplorer) (Link: https://wiidatabase.de/3ds-downloads/pc-tools/every-file-explorer/)
Alright...I hope you got all of the following tools/programs. Okie lets get started.
Before we start. You will need an existing model. In this tutorial I will use Blaze The Cat.

MAKING YOUR CHARACTER:
To make things easy. Your character should be in a T-pose just like Blaze is. Also your character should be around 200 polygons since the DS can only render about 2048 polygons. I hope you got your model ready in a T-Pose. So lets get into making the bones. A bone has the ability to make your character move. I wont explain how to make bones since there are many tutorials on Youtube on how to make bones in Blender. Anyway lets rig our character. If you are done rigging your character it should look similar to this: http://prntscr.com/jzzmpd
And you should name your bones proper names. (root, spine, head, and etc)
MAKING ANIMATIONS: Here comes the hardest part. But I will try to explain this the best I can. Lets say you want to make your character have a driving animation. Well, you can get a cpu model. (I will use Peach for this) http://prntscr.com/jzzpcm Notice the arrow pointing at her hands. Your characters hands should be here on the arrow. Now for making your character turn. I will use the 4-wheel cradle. You should move the kart's steering wheel to your characters hands. Anyway...to make a good turning animation. Start on the timeline 0 and end the time line on 28. Then you should rotate your characters should about 20-30 angles to the y axis on the left. Like this. http://prntscr.com/jzzskz Proceed to do the same for the right side. Like this. http://prntscr.com/jzzth0 Make sure you rotate your character -90 degrees on the x axis. Nice your character has a driving animation. For spin, win, and lose animations. Thats up to you to make an animation on.
EXPORTING FBX FROM BLENDER TO MAYA: Alrighty so you have your characters turning animation done. Now go to File>Export>FBX. Now for the export options. It should be this. http://prntscr.com/jzzvhw http://prntscr.com/jzzw1t http://prntscr.com/jzzw9g and http://prntscr.com/jzzwhc
Now open up Maya 2011. Now go to File>Import and look for your FBX. Now click on your FBX and it should import it. It should look like this: http://prntscr.com/jzzzlm Go to Window>Rending Editors>Hypershade and select your model and give it a material name. (body_all should be okay) Now got to NITRO-System and select NITRO Export with settings. Just follow the settings in this. http://prntscr.com/k001ev http://prntscr.com/k001jc
IMPORTING YOUR IMD AND ICA TO G3DCVTR: Now open MKDSCM and go to Tools>Nitro Intermediate> G3DCVTR Gui. Open you IMD in G3 and select emdl and etex and hit covert/analyze. And for ICA just do the same as IMD and just hit covert/analyze.
REPLACING THE NSBMD AND NSBCA WITH YOUR CUSTOM CHARACTERS ONES. This should be easy. Just open your MKDS rom in EFE and locate KartModelMenu>Character and pick your character you wanna replace. For ingame go to KartModelSub>Character and pick your character you wanna replace.


Finally...Its done. Im sure there will be some problems on trying to make a custom character. But I am sure I can fix most of it. Anyway hope ur custom character works owo

Rover I should mention that your character size should be similar to the cpu. Just import a cpu character in blender then make your custom character similar size to the cpu

Rover Hmm...Does your folder say MKDSCM last? If so try putting the g3dcvtr and xerces in the MKDSCM last folder.

Rover Do you happen to have anvil studio? I would recommend getting that. Anyway. Once you installed it. Open your .midi file and it should open it. Go to View (Beside Track) and select Piano Roll Editor. On the piano roll editor select which time you want the starting loop to start. Then go to Edit (Beside File) Insert MIDI event. Now make sure you check Include Meta Events. Then select what kind of event you want. You'll need to select Marker for your midi to loop. Then name it "LoopStart". Repeat what I said about making a first loop but when you have to name it. Name it "LoopEnd" Once you got that done. Select file. Then Export MIDI-Format 0 file. And export the midi where ever you like. Let me know if you run into any problems.
