With as much as I talk about this, everyone should know, but I have made a birdo model for Mario Kart DS. The model is far from finished, it lacks the nitro materials, its really 'blocky', and for some reason theres a texture glitch on the mouth/nose. I really have done all that I know how to do (I'm not very good at this at all) but it still looks like crap..... Someone told me to use a low poly model of birdo from mkWII or mkDD, but I have no idea what i'm doing with those models... If you have time or know how to fix any of these problems, I'll link the model below: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yajugbq74gsya1t/AAARimeihYqxkMFnsSTApzwha?dl=0 Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! THANKS SO MUCH! |

I opened the OBJ in Maya, but it lacks textures. Could you include all textures to your Dropbox thingy? Also, your model is far from optimised, notice the nose. ![]() In case you want to know how it looks like after Smooth (both as in the model, and as in the polycount)... ![]() |

Damn too many tris. Honestly i dont know how you claim you dont know what to do with the Wii or DD low poly models and yet you are creating one? Like if you create one what are you gonna do with it? Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh , its not really my angle , i legit just dont get that part lol. Anyway , it would be so much better to use an existing model if you are not familiar with 3D Modelling as you need to take in count how much triangles your model has ,it has to be less than 200 IIRC , so its low poly. Also existing models are already textured so you dont have to bother with UV mapping and etc. Its a stretch to do it manually from scratch if you dont know how exactly the character looks by heart or are not familiar with 3D modelling at all. Anyway , heres a model of Birdo from MKWii , is lowpoly. And has way less triangles than yours. Now what you would need is a way to apply the nitro materials to the model and have an static animation for it , assuming you are not planning to actually animate it or something. Also i took the time to remove the legs , because you dont need them and it reduces the triangle count even more. And its already sized to match the MKDS character models size. http://www.mediafire.com/file/ur7uiq5l2al4wrl/Catherine.zip |

OH KILL ME NOW!!! x_x x_x x_x What does this error mean? It happens everytime I replace a file in EFE.... Ive tried closing everything before I use EFE, but it still says it can't access the file because it's being used in another process... AND THEN TO TOP EVERYTHING OFF, IT COMPLETELY ERASES THE ROM Oh and thanks for the Model SWIFTIE!!! It looks Great!!! EDIT: I can Bypass it sometimes, but it usually pops up when I try to save in the main window.... |

What does this error mean? A screenshot of the error might be helpful, as well as the exact steps you're performing. |

![]() This is the error that pops up..... It happens when I try to save EVERYTHING, but its guaranteed to happen when I replace a model file or texture file..... Ive tried closing everything before saving, Ive tried saving with a clean rom, Ive even tried redownloading EFE.... But it still pops up... Whats weird about it is that it only happens when you try to save in the main EFE window.... If I open up a .carc file and save, nothing happens, but the main "data" Section always brings up this error |

PabloMK7 | Have you tried moving your rom outside the Downloads folder? Maybe it's being used by the browser you used to download it or something. |

Could someone please give me a quick tutorial on how to 'shade' models.... You know the nitro materials and all that, because I don't know what software to use or anything.... It depends on what you want to shade: -you can shade characters and karts with Nitro Standard materials In order to do that, you'll need an older version of maya or 3ds max (with the NITRO plugins installed). I use 3DS max 2011 (but i can't tell you where to get it as it is against the rules of this site). -you can shade CT's using vertex colouring/painting (look it up, it's pretty easy to understand what it is once you see it). I use 3DS max because i managed to make it work there, i'm not sure if there's another way to do it. You can check out This tutorial on this forum, which explains how to use 3ds max for creating karts but a big part of the process is similar to making a CT with it. |
